2.1 Risk Factors: Lower stages of oxygen in blood or lung characteristics can motivate human beings with underlying fitness issues like anemia or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) more at risk of altitude illness.

2.2 Prevention Strategies:

  • Gradual Acclimatization: When planning your trek itinerary, make sure that it consists of slow ascents with sufficient relaxation days for acclimatization. Be wary of fast ascent in altitudes past 2500m.
  • Hydration: Drinking lots of water prevents dehydration which contributes to preserving body temperature and enables acclimatization.
